Apart from dance, Aishwarya is currently a science student at the University of British Columbia, and a recipient of the Schulich Leader Science Scholarship. Passionate about international affairs and global issues, she was chosen by the District of Burnaby to attend the United Nations Student Conference on Human Rights at the UN Headquarters in New York City. Attempting to share this passion to other youth, Aishwarya has chaired and organized many large-scale model UN conferences across the lower mainland.
Furthermore, she is also an active member of the environmental movement, serving as a Director for UBC Common Energy, UBC’s largest and most active sustainability organization. She is also the founder of Vancouver’s Largest Clothing Swap, an annual event that diverts more than 18,000 garments from the landfill and boasts more than 350 attendees. As the former President of “Unity In Green”, a youth-run organization based in Moscrop Secondary, Aishwarya has organized several public forums, awareness weeks, community clean-ups, and has even established a fully functioning garden at a local seniors’ home. When not busy with community projects, Aishwarya can be found volunteering around the community, running, and listening to music.
Aishwarya is a proud recipient of the City of Burnaby’s Youth Citizenship Award, and Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Award, Darpan Magazine Young Wonder Award, and Writers International Network Community Ambassador Award.
